Charles Lewis Grant (12 de setembro de 1942 - 15 de setembro de 2006) foi um romancista e contista americano especializado no que chamou de " fantasia sombria " e " terror silencioso ". Biografia

Vida pregressa

Charles L. Grant nasceu em Newark, New Jersey . Ele recebeu um BA do Trinity College, Hartford , Connecticut, em 1964 e lecionou por quatro anos. Então, de 1968 a 1970, Grant serviu na polícia militar do Exército dos EUA no Vietnã e foi premiado com uma Estrela de Bronze .

Carreira

De 1973 a 1977, Grant foi secretário de escritores de ficção científica da América. Em 1987-1988, ele atuou como presidente da Associação de Escritores de Terror.

Grant ganhou um World Fantasy Award por sua coleção de novelas Nightmare Seasons , um Nebula Award em 1976 por seu conto "A Crowd of Shadows" e outro Nebula Award em 1978 por seu romance A Glow of Candles, a Unicorn's Eye , este último contando do dilema de um ator em um futuro pós-alfabetizado. Grant também editou a premiada antologia Shadows , com onze volumes de 1978-1991. Morte

Sofrendo de problemas de saúde em seus últimos anos, Grant morreu em 15 de setembro de 2006 de um ataque cardíaco .

Recepção critica

Stephen King expressou admiração pelo trabalho de Grant, afirmando que Grant foi "um dos principais escritores de terror de sua ou de qualquer geração". Essa citação costumava ser colocada na capa dos livros de Grant. Discutindo a ficção de Grant, Jess Nevins disse que "Grant se destacou em construir uma atmosfera agourenta e aumentar a tensão dramática, na caracterização e no ritmo."
